Study Highlights:
- African Americans who smoke cigarettes are more likely than those who don’t to have peripheral artery disease (PAD).
- Those who smoked more than 20 cigarettes a day significantly increased their likelihood of having PAD.
- PAD is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and can lead to stroke, erectile dysfunction and loss of limbs.

Cognitive impairment risk increased in hypertensive patients with progressive cerebral small vessel disease

Study Highlights:
- Hypertension patients experienced abnormalities in the brain’s small vessels that were associated with cognitive impairment, which may be an early sign of dementia.
